The “100 deadliest days” for teen drivers

Many parents with teenage drivers are concerned about their children’s safety. After all, motorized vehicle accidents are the leading cause of death for teenagers in the United States.

As summer approaches, it is good to be reminded that the period between Memorial Day and Labor Day is considered the most dangerous times for teen drivers. During the “100 deadliest days,” teen traffic fatalities can be 14% higher than at other times of the year. Here are a few contributing factors to why this is the case.

Get an attorney on your side when you open a new business

If you're running a business, one of the first things you should do is identify which attorney you want to work with. It's a fact that the business world is litigious, and having an attorney on your side is essential. Having an attorney who knows your business and your processes is essential as well.

Commercial litigation simply refers to disputes that take place during normal business activities. This could include problems with employees, government agencies, other businesses or your clients. Some common types of commercial litigation include:

  • Lawsuits for personal injury, liability or other business-related issues
  • Breach of contract disputes
  • Partnership disputes

Death taxes: What you need to know about taxation

Death taxes seem ominous, and in a way, they are. They're taxes imposed by the government against someone's estate once they pass away.

These taxes are levied against the beneficiary who receives the decedent's property. The estate may also be taxed directly prior to transferring the inherited property to the heirs.

Spring brings cycling crashes: 3 tips to stay safe

Spring is here, and summer's coming soon, so it's not surprising that people are starting to head back out on their bicycles. Ohio's weather can be unpredictable, so on warm, sunny days, it's common to see an unusual number of people on or around the roads during the day.

How can communication make your divorce easier on your children?

Divorce is hard on everyone involved. You and your spouse have to change nearly every aspect of your lives as you separate. But your children will go through many changes as well—so you should consider how you can help them cope.

Even though it might be hard to go over tough topics with your children, talking to them about what is happening may benefit your entire family. Proper communication is key to helping everyone get through the divorce process.

Work with your attorney to set up your first business

Forming a limited liability corporation (LLC) is easy if you have the right information. It is not always easy to get your business off the ground, but it sets you up for success if you start out as the right kind of business.

One of the first steps to protecting yourself is filing as a limited liability corporation, because it protects you against personal financial liabilities if there are problems with the business in the future, such as bankruptcy. There may also be tax advantages, which could help you save hundreds, or thousands, of dollars.

Bias or fairness? Custody in court can be complex

A father does not have fewer rights than a mother just by virtue of being male. It's something that fathers must remember to protect themselves. Biases in court are not only unfair but also illegal.

It is not true that women are more likely to have custody of their children as a result of a bias in court. In fact, fathers have the same rights in seeking custody as mothers. However, there are some factors that lend to women obtaining more custody over men that may come up in your case. These factors include things such as:

  • A mother's time spent at home raising your child
  • The nature of their relationship (mothers who stay at home with children may have a more significant bond)
  • Having more time to raise a child due to a flexible work schedule or maternity leave

How can you tell if you have neuropathy?

When nerves are damaged, a person may develop peripheral neuropathy. This simply means that the nerves that carry information to and from the brain are damaged and unable to carry the signals correctly. Single nerves that are damaged or groups of nerves that suffer damage can cause peripheral neuropathy.

Interestingly, neuropathy is very common. It can happen due to natural causes like infections, metabolic disease, low levels of certain vitamins, bone marrow disorders, tumors and poor blood flow to the legs. Neuropathy can also be caused by outside sources like being exposed to the cold for a long period of time or being involved in trauma, like a car crash.

You can build a successful business with the right support

Many people are eager to start their own businesses, but they aren't quite sure where to begin. You're not alone if you feel the same way.

Starting a small business can be daunting, but it can also be extremely beneficial to your future. There are over 28 million small businesses throughout America, according to the Small Business Administration. What's more interesting is that of the small businesses with employees, only around two-thirds survive two years. Only around half make it to the five-year mark.

Drunk driving: Drivers know better but still do it

Of all the things that drivers know they shouldn't do, driving drunk is probably the most prominent. People know that driving while intoxicated is a serious threat to themselves and to others.

The website of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) states that approximately 10,497 people were killed in alcohol-related crashes in 2015. That's around 28 percent of all motor-vehicle fatalities reported that year. Around 1.5 million people are arrested for drinking and driving or using drugs and driving while impaired each year, which is a serious problem for others who are trying to be safe on the roads.
